With more than 50 years of experience, Clemar Engineering relied on more than 200 workers to supply the most eagerly awaited highway in Santa Catarina with an innovative system.
A landmark in the country's road infrastructure, the Greater Florianópolis Ring Road was inaugurated on Friday (9). The new highway, which promises to relieve traffic in the region, has 50 kilometers of dual carriageway, six interchanges, four double tunnels, seven bridges and 20 level crossings.
The tunnels are home to the most modern technology and safety equipment on the market - something that sets the Contorno Viário apart from other highways. Called ITS, Intelligent Transportation Systems, these systems include lighting, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), fire detection and firefighting systems, variable message signs and lane markers, emergency telephony, ventilation, among others.
Part of this technology was supplied and installed by Clemar Engineering, a company from Florianópolis with over 50 years of history and which is part of the KCC TUNELS Consortium (KAPSCH, CLEMAR AND CLD). “The automation and intelligence work applied to the Contorno Viário tunnels is our largest contract, and also the most challenging to date,” said Clemar's director of special projects and defense, Luiz Fernando Lemos, who has been with the company for over 20 years.
"Manezinha", Clemar has differentiated itself in the market by offering complete engineering solutions and, as a result, has won over Brazil, with a network of branches throughout the country. The company operates in several areas, but stands out mainly in the Telecommunications, Mission Critical Environments, Defense and Security, Electrical, Agribusiness and Industry sectors.
“Participation in the important Contorno Viário project has crowned a career of dedication and expertise,” says Inácio Vandresen, CEO of Clemar Engineering.

About the Ring Road
Long awaited for 12 years, the Contorno Viário is an expressway that will cross the cities of Biguaçu, São José, Palhoça and Governador Celso Ramos. This will divert traffic from the BR-101 highway in the region leading to Florianópolis.
According to Arteris Litoral Sul, the concessionaire that manages the stretch, the total cost of the work was R$3.9 billion. The highway was inaugurated on Friday (9) in a ceremony attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
